My principal involvement in contact lenses has been in the supervision of 4th year contact lens clinics and the coordination of such clinics. Last year such coordination involved:

Establishing a working grading system to evaluate student performance in the contact lens clinic which could be easily understood and followed by all supervisors, as the previous system was deemed no longer suitable.
Developing a working system to ensure adequate disinfection of RGP trial sets according to CoO guidelines. This also included restocking the lab completely with new trial sets.
Monitoring of contact lens ordering, payment, delivery etc.
Supervision of 4th year clinics.

I will also be involved in teaching 3rd year contact lens clinics for the coming year. I have 5 years experience of contact lens fitting, involving extensive involvement in RGP fitting/problem solving.

officials, including contact lens fits and assessments.

1999-present

Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland) :

Full-time lecturer on the BSc in Optometry course, with lecturing and practical teaching

responsibilities in contact lens clinics (years 3 & 4).

Research projects currently underway:

Assessment of UV incidence at the ocular surface and the implications for prescribing in sport

Case studies as a teaching tool in contact lens practicals
