Associate Director of Contact lens Teaching,

 

Interests

Specialised in Contact Lenses since qualification. Worked until 1994 as a Research and Senior Optometrist in the Contact Lens Department of Moorfields Eye Hospital when main research interests were Oxygen Permeability of materials, Aphakia and Paediatric contact lenses. Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Optometry where undertook clinical trials in Care Regimes, and specialist lens designs.

‘Why do we have ocular tissue problems when wearing extended wear contact lenses and how might they be influenced by new innovations’

‘Review of tear evaporation in marginal dry eyes’

‘Will dietary Evening Primrose Oil be of beneficial effect for dry eye related problems in female soft monthly and daily contact lens wearers ?’

‘An investigation into the effect of lid eversion on Keratometry readings’

 

Publications

Has published 50 papers on all aspects of contact lens work, written three chapters and co-authored two editions of The Contact Lens Manual.

Career path:

Private practice for 12 years, MSc course at Aston University, Senior Optometrist in the Contact Lens Dept at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, for 4 years, Lecturer at City University in 1983, currently senior lecturer and Director of Contact Lens Studies. Also responsible for second year clinical practice course, first and third year legal courses and a Hospital Contact Lens Practice module

Over 60 publications in journals and text books mainly related to contact lens subjects.
